Naturopathic Doctor Rates 5 Best Essential Oil Brands to Avoid Toxic Additives

Being a naturopathic doctor means I take into account both modern medicine and holistic, natural ways to help my patients, like essential oils. I am a big supporter (and personal user) of essential oils, however most people don’t know this, but many essential oils contain toxic fillers.

Ingredients like Diethyl Phthalate (DEP – known to disrupt hormones), Methyl Eugenol (Human carcinogen), Synthetic Fragrances (can trigger migraines and respiratory issues), and other phthalates are hiding in tons of popular essential oil brands. We diffuse essential oils into the air we breathe, use it on our bodies, and even occasionally add it to our food/drinks. It’s extremely important to know what’s in them.

I always want to make sure I am giving my patients the best care possible, and since I use oils with my children as well, I decided to research and try the most popular essential oil brands to find the best non-toxic and safe option. Below is what I found as the best 5.

SPOILER: Revive Essential Oils were my #1 pick. Not only do they have over 300 different essential oils and blends to choose from, but they’re actually 100% PURE. No toxic additives, no hormone disruption, no cancer risk. Revive Essential Oils is now the ONLY brand I trust to use in my home + with my patients!

1.  REVIVE ESSENTIAL OILS

revive essential oils review

Revive Essential Oils blew me away, and they’re my favorite essential oils by far, earning 5 stars ★★★★★. I used their oils on my entire family and had great results. Sleep, energy, pain, allergies – you name it and there is a Revive EO essential oil or blend for it.  My husband loves the Sleep blend

The most important part: These oils DON’T contain any harmful additives or fillers. They’re 100% PURE, and each lot of oils undergoes 20 different tests to ensure the quality, purity, and potency is up to par. In other words: there is NO risk of hormone disruption, cancer, or respiratory issues with these oils! (Unlike some other popular essential oils brands).

Another thing I especially love is how affordable these oils are! Popular MLM Essential Oil brands tend to upcharge. Revive, on the other hand, is a fraction of the cost. No monthly or yearly fees either!

Finally, we love all the great reviews on Revive’s website! After confirming the safety of this brand, I also had my patients try a few and they’ve had great results, especially with chronic pain and their overall immunity.

I’ve stocked up on tons of these oils (the Starter Kit is a great place to begin!), but my favorite by far is their version of Thieves, called REVIVE Immunity Boost

This is what I recommend and use at home, and thus earned the #1 Spot.

2.  DoTerra

If you know anything about essential oils, you probably know about DoTerra. But is it really worth the hype?

Full transparency: I was a DoTerra user for years. I liked a few of the oils, but I started getting tired of the constant sales pitches and expensive prices.

The positives: DoTerra’s oils are known to be pure without additives, and I like that they’re bottled in America just like Revive. But knowing that I can get oils that are just as great from Revive for a fraction of the cost means I just can’t justify sticking with DoTerra.

They do have great reviews, though.

2.  Young Living

Another fan favorite: Young Living Essential Oils. Did you know they own their own farms? Impressive!

Young Living oils uses an MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) sales approach, so unfortunately that does make their prices one of the highest on the market. As for quality, they do claim to be 100% Pure. I do wish Young Living posted their GC/MS reports publicly.

Because of this, Young Living is #3 on our list.

4.  Rocky Mountain

Rocky Mountain Essential Oils (formerly Native American Nutritionals) has been known as a trustworthy brand for a while now. They’re very open about their testing and purity verifications, which I appreciate. They are, however, fairly pricey.

At first, we thought Rocky Mountain would be higher on our list. After some digging, we weren’t able to determine their quality levels and if they are able to match our other picks.

Because of the high prices and questionable quality, Rocky Mountain lands at #4 on our list.

5. Melaleuca

I hadn’t heard of Melaleuca before doing this experiment, but they seem to have some good reviews. They sell essential oils under the brand name “Pure essential oils”, but weirdly you have to be a member to purchase these oils at an affordable price. That means you have to pay a monthly fee to be able to spend more money on their products.

The oils seem pure enough and of decent quality, but the roundabout way of being able to purchase anything seems too convoluted.

Because of this, they’re ranking at #5 on my list.

And the Winner is…

The Winner, by far, is Revive Essential Oils! I love their purity, the high-quality, and the extensive testing to make sure there are NO toxic additives. Plus, the prices are amazing! Don’t forget– you can get the entire site is on SALE right now thanks to their SECRET sale.
