5 Best Essential Oils to Stimulate Hair Growth

I learned that certain essential oils can help support hair growth by promoting follicle stimulation and reducing scalp inflammation. And I’ve been dealing with hair thinning, dryness, and even some balding, so I decided to try them out.

So I spent months testing essential oils as hair masks to find the best options for new hair growth, thickness, and overall scalp health.

I tested products from several popular essential oil brands and paid close attention to how they performed over time (checking baby hairs), how they made my scalp feel, and whether they actually supported stronger, healthier-looking hair.

SPOILER: Revive Essential Oils was my top pick. They use 100% pure essential oils, and I noticed the most hair growth with their Healthy Hair Blend—plus the price is unbeatable.

1. REVIVE ESSENTIAL OILS

Revive Healthy Hair Essential Oil Blend

REVIVE earned the #1 spot and it mostly came down to one product: their Healthy Hair Essential Oil Blend.

This was one of the only products I tested that actually felt like it was created specifically for hair growth at the scalp level, not just improving how your hair looks after styling (though my hair did look amazing!)

The blend combines oils commonly used for hair support, like rosemary, tea tree, and lemongrass, in a way that’s already balanced and easy to use.

After using it consistently, I noticed:

  • new growth, especially baby hairs around my hairline
  • less breakage and fewer split ends
  • my hair felt more hydrated and noticeably smoother (less frizz)
  • it looked shinier and healthier overall

It works across different hair types and can be used regularly without that “product overload” feeling you get from heavier treatments.

Quality: ★★★★★

Their oils are 100% pure therapeutic essential oils with no fillers. Plus they aren’t loaded with things like sulfates, parabens, or synthetic fragrance you’ll find in a lot of hair products. Their oils go through 20 different tests to make sure their purity, quality, and potency are of the highest standard.

Price: ★★★★★

Revive prices are great! Healthy Hair Blend for $29 with their individual oils starting at only $6 (hello Lemongrass!). Before learning about Revive I’d get my oils from doTerra but realized I was spending over $1,000 a year! Since Revive isn’t a MLM they offer the same quality oils but at a lower price!

Compared to other brands, this was significantly more affordable—especially for something that’s already blended and ready to use.

They also offer individual oils like rosemary, cedarwood, lemongrass, and jojoba carrier oil if you prefer to customize—but the blend alone worked really well and gave me really noticeable results.

UPDATE: I just found a SECRET REVIVE SALE! Right now you can get 15% OFF everything if you use code SECRET15 at checkout

2. doTERRA

doTERRA Root to Tip Serum

doTERRA is one of the most well-known essential oil brands, so I tested their Root to Tip Serum.

It didn’t feel like it was doing much at the scalp level. It helped slightly with breakage, but I didn’t notice many baby hairs. It made my hair feel softer and smoother after styling, but it felt more like a finishing product rather than something that supports long-term hair strength or growth.

Quality: ★★★★☆

High-quality ingredients and strong brand reputation. Once my hair dried it looked nice, but it didn’t serve my goals for hair growth.

Price: ★★☆☆☆

This is where it becomes hard to justify. The serum itself is expensive—and if you wanted to create something closer to a true scalp treatment using their essential oils and a carrier oil, the cost adds up quickly.

On top of that, the membership/wholesale structure made it confusing for me.

3. Rocky Mountain Oils

Rocky Mountain Oils Hair Support Blend

Rocky Mountain Oils offers a Hair Support blend, which is closer to what I was looking for.

It felt more treatment-focused than the previous option so I was excited about this one. Initially I thought it was a fully standalone blend, but I realized you still need to purchase a carrier oil or use it within a wash routine—it can’t be used as easily on its own like Revive’s blend.

The results were good with a carrier oil and I noticed some baby hairs, but not as many as my #1 pick.

Still a good option, but it didn’t feel as effective or as easy to use compared to my top pick.

Quality: ★★★☆☆

High-quality oils with good sourcing standards. I like the specific oils they picked for the blend.

Price: ★★★☆☆

Still relatively expensive for a blend, especially considering the results didn’t stand out as much and I needed to purchase an additional carrier oil to use it.

4. Young Living

Young Living Mirah Lustrous Hair Oil

I tested the Mirah Lustrous Hair Oil, which is one of their main hair-focused products.

The oil did a great job of managing my hair and I noticed less frizz after air drying my hair, but I didn’t see any new baby hairs growing since using this product. It’s nice for styling, but not ideal for my main goal, hair growth.

Quality: ★★★☆☆

Good quality oils overall, and a good product when it comes to styling, just not for actual hair growth support.

Price: ★★☆☆☆

Pricing is on the higher end, especially for a product that functions more as a styling oil. Plus they also have a membership or wholesale option, but I can’t justify becoming a paying member just for a discounted price on my hair serum.

5. Melaleuca

Melaleuca Rosemary Essential Oil

Melaleuca doesn’t offer a specific hair blend, so I tested a combination of their Rosemary essential oil with a carrier oil.

I’m familiar with their oils which is why I wanted to try them out, but I unfortunately didn’t notice any results with this.

Quality: ★★☆☆☆

Decent quality oils, not suitable for my hair growth goal.

Price: ★★★☆☆

Pricing is reasonable, but you need to pay monthly to purchase at all—which makes it less convenient overall.

Also, having to choose your own oils to create your own blend gets complicated.

And the winner is…

My favorite, by far, is Revive Essential Oils! I love their Healthy Hair Blend! It really activated my scalp and I noticed so many baby hairs. My hair has never been stronger, plus, the prices are amazing! Don’t forget– the entire site is on SALE right now thanks to their SECRET sale.

This blend is great for all types of hair thinning, like postpartum, menopausal, alopecia, stress, or just damaged and dry hair.

    • healthyfitnessandliving

It took me about 2-3 weeks with consistent use. I noticed some around my hairline fairly quickly but it definitely wasn’t overnight! But even before, my scalp and hair felt so good, which encouraged me to keep going!

That was one of my concerns too! I only used a small amount on my scalp, then I let it sit for an hour before washing my hair and it didn’t weigh my hair down afterward at all! You should try the recommended 5 minutes first and see how your hair handles its, that’ll still be enough to stimulate new growth

he Healthy Hair Blend is ready for you to use, no dilution necessary! You’d only need a carrier oil if you chose to use Revive’s single essential oils but I was so happy with the results and ease of the Healthy Hair Blend, that’s what I’d recommend 🙂 Revive also includes usage instructions, which makes it much less intimidating!

Definitely! I gave some to my dad and he’s noticed a great improvement in his male pattern baldness
